StumbleUpon
The main purpose of StumbleUpon is to allow you to discover new content from websites that are “stumbled” or voted on by people who share similar interests as you. When you “discover” a website (be the first person to stumble it) the stumble upon toolbar asks you to review the website and give tags that describe the website. When you sign up with StumbleUpon you tell StumbleUpon what types of subjects you like (music, comedy, technology, etc) This will be used to determine which sites will appeal to you when stumbling through sites. When you stumble a site you are telling SumbleUpon that you like that website and you would like to see more sites like it. This system delivers highly personalized content just for you, so you don’t have to scour the internet for content that interests you.
StumbleUpon also allows you to meet new people who stumble the same sites as you and, subsequently, who share the same interests as you. Think of StumbleUpon as a combination of Social Bookmarking (digg, reddit, slashdot) and Social Networking (facebook, myspace, friendster)
